The game takes place several decades into the future in the San Francisco Bay Area, following a war between the human race and an alien race known as the Votans.
Due to their planet being destroyed, The Votans arrived on Earth hoping to find a vacant planet where they could set up a new civilization.
Humans and Voltans clashed, unleashing alien power that terraformed the earth, causing the Earth's surface to change dramatically.
Old species and plants became extinct, while new species emerged.
The player plays as an "Ark Hunter" hired by a wealthy industrialist to search for hidden alien power.
Defiance features advanced character customization.
Players have the ability to customize everything from the clothes they are wearing to their facial hair style.
Players also have the option to be a Human or an Irathient, a humanoid alien species that are similar to humans.
There is not a strict class system, and instead allows players to choose from one of four origins, which are veterans, outlaws, machinists, and survivalists.
Origins do not affect the abilities, weapons, or outfits the player can choose, and instead just serve as a starting point and background for your character.
The game's key feature is its Arkfall Events, which are dynamic events which pit humans, aliens, and monsters against one another in order to obtain expensive alien technology.
About PC
PC gaming spans over four decades, from early DOS titles to today's massive Steam and digital-storefront libraries. Because "PC" covers everything from 1990s CD-ROM releases to current AAA titles, it's the single largest platform by game count on Gamevaro. For collectors, PC gaming splits into two very different worlds: physical big-box releases from the 1990s and 2000s (increasingly collectible, especially complete-in-box with original manuals and inserts) and the modern digital library, which Gamevaro tracks for portfolio and spending purposes even though it has no resale market.
Gamevaro tracks Defiance (1997) for PC with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Defiance (1997) to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This PC release dates back to 1997.

Rarity & condition
No market sales have been tracked yet for Defiance (1997) — this could mean it rarely changes hands, or simply that Gamevaro hasn't recorded a sale for it yet. Be the first to add it to your collection.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
