About this game

Marathon is a science-fiction extraction shooter set in the Tau Ceti system, reimagining the universe of the classic Marathon .

Rather than following a single linear campaign, the game places players in the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners who infiltrate the abandoned colony on Tau Ceti IV in search of valuable technology and lost artifacts.

The world is a hazardous battleground filled with rival scavengers, remnants of the United Earth Space Council (UESC) security forces, and environmental dangers left behind after the mysterious collapse of the original expedition.

Gameplay revolves around high-risk runs into contested zones.

Players explore ruined research facilities, industrial complexes, and wilderness areas to gather loot while managing limited ammunition and supplies.

Exploration frequently escalates into fast-paced player-versus-player combat as rival crews compete for the same resources.

Success depends on extracting safely with stolen equipment, which is then used to upgrade gear, unlock cosmetics, and build stronger loadouts for future expeditions.

Each run therefore carries permanent risk: dying means losing everything brought into the mission.

Players control configurable Runner shells, synthetic bodies designed for different playstyles, such as heavy combat Destroyers, stealth-focused Thieves, or reconnaissance specialists.

Weapons, implants, and core systems can be extensively modified, allowing players to assemble specialized builds tailored for solo infiltration or coordinated team strategies.

Runs can be undertaken alone, in pairs, or as three-person crews, and proximity voice chat allows temporary alliances with rival Runners.

About PlayStation 5

Launched in late 2020, the PlayStation 5 introduced ultra-fast SSD loading and ray tracing to mainstream console gaming. It's still early in its collecting life cycle, but the Digital Edition (no disc drive) has already created a meaningful split in the market between disc-based and digital-only PS5 owners — something collectors should keep in mind when comparing prices for the "same" game.

Gamevaro tracks Marathon for PlayStation 5 with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.

Adding Marathon to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This PS5 release dates back to 2026.

Rarity & condition

No market sales have been tracked yet for Marathon — this could mean it rarely changes hands, or simply that Gamevaro hasn't recorded a sale for it yet. Be the first to add it to your collection.

Condition matters a lot for collector value: loose (cartridge/disc only), complete-in-box (CIB, with original packaging and manual) and factory-sealed copies are tracked separately because the price gap between them can be significant, especially for older releases.
