To help out, you have a magic wand which can be used to create and destroy blocks (though some blocks can't be destroyed).
In order to reach the key you will need carefully to arrange the blocks on the screen so you can jump your way around safely.
Wandering around each level are a variety of enemies which will cause you to lose a life if you're caught.
Some creatures can be killed by destroying the block they are standing on, others must be dodged.
Hidden bonuses and magic can be found on many of the levels, sometimes even hidden in blocks.
Some treasures give you bonus points, others can form magic spells to help deal with the enemies.
To make the game more difficult, each level has a time limit in which it must be completed.
A few changes exist between the NES port and the Arcade original.
A few enemies were either removed or replaced with these changes making the game easier.
The NES version has 48 stages compared to the Arcade's 44.
About Sega Genesis
Known as the Mega Drive outside North America, the Sega Genesis (1988/1989) was Sega's most successful console and Sonic the Hedgehog's original home, fueling the "console wars" era against Nintendo's SNES. Genesis cartridge collecting is well-established: common sports and platformer titles are affordable, while sports-license and later-era games with smaller print runs can carry a meaningful premium.

Condition matters a lot for collector value: loose (cartridge/disc only), complete-in-box (CIB, with original packaging and manual) and factory-sealed copies are tracked separately because the price gap between them can be significant, especially for older releases.
