With no memory of how they arrived, survivors must gather resources, build shelter, and tame the world’s dangerous wildlife in order to endure and eventually uncover the secrets of the ARK.

The core gameplay revolves around managing hunger, thirst, stamina, health, and body temperature.

Players collect raw materials like wood, stone, and fiber to craft tools, weapons, and clothing.

Progression comes through experience points earned from gathering, crafting, hunting, and exploration, which can be spent to increase character attributes or unlock new crafting recipes called engrams.

Combat uses both melee and ranged weapons, and survival often depends on preparing equipment and learning enemy patterns before engaging hostile creatures or rival players.

One of the defining systems is taming and breeding creatures.

Dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals can be subdued and domesticated, then used as mounts, pack animals, or combat allies.

Each species has unique abilities, such as flight, aquatic travel, or resource gathering bonuses.

Tamed creatures can be bred to produce offspring with inherited traits.

Base-building is another central mechanic.

Players construct shelters ranging from simple huts to fortified complexes using modular building pieces.

These structures provide protection from the environment, storage for supplies, and defensive measures against both wildlife and hostile survivors.

Electricity, plumbing, and automated defenses become available as technology advances, allowing the creation of complex facilities.

The game features both cooperative and competitive multiplayer.

Survivors can form tribes to share resources, tame animals collectively, and build large communal bases.

About Atari 2600

The Atari 2600 (1977) was the console that first proved interchangeable game cartridges could sustain a mass-market business, effectively founding the home console industry as we know it. Most common 2600 titles are inexpensive today given how many units and copies were sold, but a small number of extremely rare releases — including several from Atari's own late-era prototype and licensed titles — are among the most valuable cartridges in retro collecting.

Gamevaro tracks Survival Island for Atari 2600 with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.

Adding Survival Island to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This A2600 release dates back to 1983.

Rarity & condition

Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Survival Island, suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common Atari 2600 titles.

Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
