The goal is always to both survive and collect as many money bags as possible.

The amount of required bags to beat a level depends on the chosen difficulty level.

Underwater snorkeling: Hugo camera is fixed behind Hugo's back and he has to dodge incoming obstacles.

He also needs to regularly take new breath which is only possible if he stays in the middle of the screen.

Snowboarding: Just like in the underwater level, Hugo has to dodge incoming obstacles; just on a snowboard.

Forest: Hugo automatically moves from left to right and has to dodge obstacles by either jumping or ducking.

Ice cave: Here Hugo moves over a bottomless pit.

The only way to stay alive is to stand on pillars, but those randomly rise and fall.

Hugo can move in four directions.

The fifth level is unlocked after beating the other four.

The Game Boy Color version additionally has a training mode which allows to play the levels individually.

About Game Boy Color

The Game Boy Color (1998) added a color screen to the original Game Boy formula while remaining backwards compatible with the entire existing cartridge library. Its colorful, semi-transparent cartridge shells make it a visually distinct platform for shelf collectors, and several late-cycle exclusives — released just before the Game Boy Advance took over — are notably harder to find complete today.

Gamevaro tracks Hugo: Black Diamond Fever for Game Boy Color with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.

Adding Hugo: Black Diamond Fever to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This GBC release dates back to 2001.

Current price €36.33 is close to the average of €35.94 over the tracked period (range: €35.54€36.33).

Rarity & condition

Hugo: Black Diamond Fever has a steady sales history on the tracked marketplaces, meaning enough copies circulate to establish a reliable market price.

Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
