There are two playing modes available: Time Trial is basically the campaign mode in which the player participates in overall eight races on the eight courses the game has to offer.
The four opponents can shoot at each other and the goal is to finish the race first.
In this mode a password is rewarded after every victory.
The round courses sometimes allow alternate paths.
Deathmatch focuses on the shooting part.
The opponents (the number can be set beforehand) move freely over the course (without the boundaries from time trial) and the last one standing wins.
There are also some power ups to collect.
About Game Boy Color
The Game Boy Color (1998) added a color screen to the original Game Boy formula while remaining backwards compatible with the entire existing cartridge library. Its colorful, semi-transparent cartridge shells make it a visually distinct platform for shelf collectors, and several late-cycle exclusives — released just before the Game Boy Advance took over — are notably harder to find complete today.
Gamevaro tracks Rip-Tide Racer for Game Boy Color with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Rip-Tide Racer to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This GBC release dates back to 2000.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Rip-Tide Racer has a steady sales history on the tracked marketplaces, meaning enough copies circulate to establish a reliable market price.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
