The game starts with a few survivors of a tribe who are stranded on an island, in a lagoon.
During the course of the game they will expand to two more locations, a smaller island of volcanic origin, and the jungle behind the lagoon.
The player has to teach the people the basics of survival, train them in different skills and help them develop their technologies.
In order to do so, there are many mini-games to play to gain more skills.
When the mini-games are ignored, the skill grows at normal pace.
During the game, the player gains the ability to customize the villagers, color their clothes and dye their hair if he likes.
He can name them and personalize them further by adorning their clothes or hair with flowers or feathers he finds.
There are ancient ruins to be discovered and mysteries (called puzzles) and these are solved using the skill and technologies from the villagers.
Many events happen, where the player has to influence the course of the island life.
For example: is the stranded whale to be rescued or to be eaten? Should the villagers chase away the monkeys? Virtual Villagers is about watching and guiding the villagers on their island in their daily struggle to survive.
About Nintendo DS
The dual-screen, touch-enabled Nintendo DS (2004) became the best-selling handheld of all time, helped by its huge and genre-diverse library. Cartridge-based DS games have held up well physically over 20 years, and complete-in-box copies of the system's biggest sellers (Nintendogs, Pokémon, Mario Kart) remain very accessible for new collectors starting out.
Gamevaro tracks Virtual Villagers: A New Home for Nintendo DS with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Virtual Villagers: A New Home to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This NDS release dates back to 2010.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Virtual Villagers: A New Home, suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common Nintendo DS titles.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
