Using magical horns, they blanket the island in ice and establish their flagship atop the peak, forcing the Kong family from their home.
Donkey Kong, accompanied by Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong, sets out to travel through frozen jungles, volcanic caverns, and distant lands in order to reclaim the island from the invaders.
Gameplay follows the traditional structure of the Donkey Kong Country series , with linear 2D stages filled with platforms, hazards, and enemies.
Players can run, jump, roll, and climb to navigate the environments while collecting bananas, coins, and the optional K-O-N-G letters.
Each companion character provides Donkey Kong with special abilities: Diddy’s jetpack extends jumps, Dixie’s ponytail allows for higher lifts and slower descents, and Cranky can use his cane to bounce across spikes and hazards.
Balloon items represent lives, and gathering one hundred bananas grants an extra balloon.
Levels often feature environmental mechanics such as collapsing platforms, shifting camera angles, dynamic water currents, and sections on mine carts or rocket barrels.
Puzzle pieces are hidden throughout the stages, providing an additional layer of challenge and rewarding completionists.
Boss battles conclude each world, requiring players to recognize patterns and use character abilities to exploit openings.
Additional game modes expand the experience.
Time Attack mode challenges players to complete stages as quickly as possible, awarding medals based on performance.
Co-operative multiplayer allows a second player to control one of the partner characters directly.
The Nintendo Switch edition introduced Funky Mode, in which Funky Kong becomes a playable character.

About Nintendo Switch
Released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch became one of the best-selling consoles of all time thanks to its hybrid handheld/docked design. Its cartridge-based physical format (as opposed to discs) has made complete-in-box collecting popular again, with certain limited print runs and Nintendo-published exclusives already commanding a premium on the secondhand market just a few years after release.
Gamevaro tracks Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Switch with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This NSW release dates back to 2014.
