Most of the playing modes are the same as on the Genesis , but the SNES version has its own selection of teams and gameplay options.

Players can select from the 30 teams of the 1997 NFL season, the 1997 All-Madden team, an EA Sports and a THQ team, a Players, Inc. (NFLPA) team, plus 28 classic NFL teams - one per franchise minus the 1995 expansion teams and the 86 Browns for the Ravens.

Playing modes include exhibition games (now optionally as a best-of-three or best-of-five series), seasons and playoffs.

There is also an option to replay all Super Bowls since 1988.

The game tracks records in 7 categories, pre-filled at the start with records to beat.

A new feature are hot and cold streaks for teams, in which their recent playing history influences their current stats.

Player creation and trading returns from the predecessors.

As in Madden 97 (but unlike in the Genesis version), players are created by performing a number of tryout mini-games, all of which can be practiced individually and for which records are tracked.

During a season, there is detailed stats tracking, for the overall league, conference, or individual team.

There are options for salary caps and trading deadlines in seasons and playoffs.

Exclusive SNES features include stadium selection and optional windy weather.

About PlayStation

The original PlayStation (1994) brought CD-based gaming and 3D graphics to the mainstream, ending Nintendo's console dominance of the previous two generations. It's now firmly in "retro collecting" territory: original jewel cases with intact manuals command a real premium over disc-only copies, and several RPGs from its later years (when Sony deliberately courted the genre) are among the most expensive commonly-collected games from the era.

Gamevaro tracks Madden NFL 98 for PlayStation with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.

Adding Madden NFL 98 to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This PS1 release dates back to 1997.

Rarity & condition

Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Madden NFL 98, suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common PlayStation titles.

Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
