Mankind continues to have wars however and in this game the player commands a submarine fighting all kinds of mechanical nasties single handed.
The sub appears on the left of the screen while the background scrolls right to left.
The submarine can move all around the scrolling screen and is controlled by either the arrow keys or the W/A/S/D/ keys.
It carries a weapon that is controlled by the mouse, this can be rotated through 360 degrees while firing continually.
Baddies attack from all sides, from above and from below. they fire torpedoes, homing missiles, and other weapons while others just ram the sub kamikaze style.
The game has two modes of play, Survival where the player faces hordes of baddies and must survive for as long as possible, and Mission in which the player faces an end of level boss as they complete each stage.
Points are scored for every baddie destroyed and, when playing in Mission mode, these can be spent on weapon and ship upgrades.
About PlayStation 2
The PlayStation 2 (2000) is the best-selling game console in history, with a library exceeding 9,000 titles that spans everything from budget shovelware to genre-defining classics. That massive volume means PS2 collecting is accessible and affordable overall, but a handful of low-print-run RPGs and cult titles have become genuinely expensive — a common pattern once a console's original audience grows up with disposable income.
Gamevaro tracks Ocean Commander for PlayStation 2 with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Ocean Commander to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This PS2 release dates back to 2007.

Rarity & condition
Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Ocean Commander, suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common PlayStation 2 titles.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
