Earthworm Jim: Special Edition
Sega CD · 1995
About this game
The game's Special Edition was released for the Sega Genesis add-on, the Sega CD.
It was based on the Genesis version, contained all of its levels, plus some extended section to the levels and a single completely new level, titled "Big Bruty", a new remixed CD audio soundtrack, as well as around 1,000 more frames of in-game animation.

These versions were also the only ones to contain alternate endings when winning on the "Easy" or "Difficult" difficulties, in which a narrator rambles on about many (false) facts about worms or congratulates the player in a similar absurd manner respectively.
The Special Edition was later ported to Windows 95 by Activision.
About Sega CD
Known as the Mega-CD outside North America, the Sega CD (1991/1992) was Sega's CD-ROM add-on for the Genesis, offering full-motion video games that felt cutting-edge at the time but haven't all aged gracefully. Bulky, fragile packaging and a relatively short commercial life make complete Sega CD sets — case, manual, and the disc itself — a meaningful step up in difficulty from Genesis cartridge collecting.

Rarity & condition
Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Earthworm Jim: Special Edition, suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common Sega CD titles.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
