Hiryu is one of the top striders.
He is given the task by Vice-Director Matic, of finding another captured strider, Kain.
But rather than mount a rescue, Hiryu is told his assignment is to kill Kain.
Hiryu questions these orders and travels to Kain's last known location to try to find him...
Strider is a platform game where Hiryu must fight his way past enemies and uncover keys, characters and data disks (which can be analysed aboard the Blue Dragon) to find out what's going on.
His primary weapon is his jumping ability and sword, the Cypher, which he uses to strike with great speed.
At some point in the game, the Cypher may be modified to shoot plasma arrows.
Hiryu also has a various set of "skills" which he learns as he gains levels.
Examples of skills are a healing ability (Medical), a jumping ability (Jump), some additional attacks (Spark, Fire, Sp-Ball) and the ability to leave an area (Warp).
About Sega Genesis
Known as the Mega Drive outside North America, the Sega Genesis (1988/1989) was Sega's most successful console and Sonic the Hedgehog's original home, fueling the "console wars" era against Nintendo's SNES. Genesis cartridge collecting is well-established: common sports and platformer titles are affordable, while sports-license and later-era games with smaller print runs can carry a meaningful premium.
Gamevaro tracks Strider (1989) for Sega Genesis with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Strider (1989) to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This GEN release dates back to 1989.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Only a handful of market sales have been tracked for Strider (1989), suggesting it doesn't trade hands very often — a sign of relative scarcity compared to more common Sega Genesis titles.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
