The stage is a ranch, stables, and racetrack.
Initially, it starts with one breeding mare and 15 million yen in funding.
The first given breeding mare is of course the lowest class.
Horse maintenance costs are 100,000 yen for each horse on a farm and 400,000 yen for each horse in a stable.
This fee is collected at the beginning of each month.
When the funds reach zero, the game ends with bankruptcy.
Of the basic parameters of a racehorse, four are directly related to racing: speed, stamina, temperament, and competitive spirit.
Furthermore, performance changes depending on factors such as sturdiness, fatigue recovery, condition, horse weight, and growth rate.
If you have a bad temper, you'll be late, or you'll waste your stamina by moving ahead without following the instructions on the way.
If you have a fighting spirit, it will be easier to win when competing in a straight line.
If it is highly durable, it is less likely to break down during training or racing.
There will also be fewer cases of athletes becoming unwell after a race.
If you have a high level of recovery, it will be easier to overcome fatigue after a race, and you will be able to run tougher even if you run repeatedly at short intervals.
The condition of a horse is what is called a biorhythm, and no matter how capable a horse may be, if it is put into a race when it is not in good shape, it will not be able to fully demonstrate its potential.
Each type has a different peak time, with early maturing being around the middle of 4 years of age, normal being late 5 years of age, and late maturing around 7 years of age.
Horses might by injured during races and in such cases they are excluded from next races.
In extreme situations, when prognosis are poor, horse can be euthanized.
About Sega Saturn
The Sega Saturn (1994/1995) struggled commercially against the PlayStation despite strong 2D capabilities and a library beloved by shoot-'em-up and RPG fans. Its relatively low sales translated directly into low print runs for many games, making the Saturn one of the more expensive retro platforms to collect completely — several titles now sell for hundreds of euros in good condition.
Gamevaro tracks Derby Stallion for Sega Saturn with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Derby Stallion to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This SAT release dates back to 1998.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Derby Stallion has a steady sales history on the tracked marketplaces, meaning enough copies circulate to establish a reliable market price.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
