During baseball matches the player gets to control batters and pitchers.
Batting and pitching both use tiered difficulty systems: batting ranges from simple timing swings to advanced control of swing power and strike-zone placement, while pitching uses a “golf swing” style meter where precision and control matter.
The game also includes simple team management gameplay, with the ability to buy and sell players.
Other highlights amongst Grand Slam 's feature set include: A trade AI engine that would examine the needs of a team and decide if a proposed trade was in its best interest.
Catcher AI and pitch signals, helping a player learn how to pitch to each batter's strengths and weaknesses.
Attention to details and baseball flavor, such as players that would blow bubble gum bubbles during an at bat, light- hearted commentary, an All Star Break during season play (complete with a working voting ballot), and an in-game JumboTron scoreboard that would show animations after home runs.
Grand Slam was one of the early adopters of 3D accelerator card technology and also offered full 3D play in software alone.
The Playstation and Saturn versions were 3D by default.
About Sega Saturn
The Sega Saturn (1994/1995) struggled commercially against the PlayStation despite strong 2D capabilities and a library beloved by shoot-'em-up and RPG fans. Its relatively low sales translated directly into low print runs for many games, making the Saturn one of the more expensive retro platforms to collect completely — several titles now sell for hundreds of euros in good condition.
Gamevaro tracks Grand Slam for Sega Saturn with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Grand Slam to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This SAT release dates back to 1996.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Grand Slam has a steady sales history on the tracked marketplaces, meaning enough copies circulate to establish a reliable market price.
Complete-in-box (CIB) copies typically command a premium over loose cartridges/discs because the original box and manual are more fragile and get discarded or damaged over time — fewer complete sets survive.
